Can I reuse my factory TPMS, lug nuts, or center caps?

Factory TPMS sensors, lug nuts, and center caps may not be compatible with aftermarket wheels due to differences in design and fitment.

When upgrading to aftermarket wheels, a common question is whether you can reuse your factory hardware and accessories. Here is a breakdown of what can and cannot typically be reused when switching to a new set of wheels.

Factory TPMS sensors

In some cases, your factory TPMS sensors may be compatible with your new aftermarket wheels. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Factory TPMS sensors are designed to work with your specific vehicle and may or may not be compatible with aftermarket wheels depending on the wheel design and valve stem configuration
  • If your new wheels use a different valve stem style than your factory wheels, your factory sensors may not be compatible
  • Even if your factory sensors are physically compatible, they may still require reprogramming to sync properly with your new setup
  • If you are unsure whether your factory sensors will work with your new wheels, we recommend reaching out to us or a local wheel and tire shop before placing your order

If your factory sensors are not compatible, aftermarket TPMS sensors are available to add to your order at an additional cost and will be installed before your package ships.

Factory lug nuts

Factory lug nuts are designed specifically for your vehicle's factory wheels and may not be compatible with aftermarket wheels. Here is why:

  • Aftermarket wheels often have a different seat type than factory wheels, meaning the lug nut seat angle may not match your factory lugs
  • Using the wrong lug nuts can result in improper seating, which can cause the wheel to be loose or unsafe
  • It is generally recommended to use aftermarket lug nuts that are specifically designed to match the seat type of your new wheels

When you place an order with us, our team selects the correct lug nuts based on your vehicle and wheel combination to ensure a safe and proper fit. Chrome lug sets are available to add to your order at checkout for an additional cost.

Factory center caps

Factory center caps are designed to fit your factory wheels and will generally not fit aftermarket wheels. Here is what to know:

  • Aftermarket wheels have different center bore sizes and cap mounting styles than factory wheels, so factory caps typically will not fit
  • Most aftermarket wheels come with their own center caps included, so you will not need to reuse your factory caps in most cases
  • If your new wheels did not come with center caps or you need a different style, such as an open cap for manual hubs, additional options may be available through the manufacturer for an additional cost
