Professional Installation Is Always Recommended

While it is possible for experienced enthusiasts to install their own wheels, professional installation is always the recommended route. A qualified wheel and tire shop has the proper equipment to ensure your wheels are torqued to the correct vehicle specifications, your TPMS sensors are functioning properly, and everything is installed safely before you hit the road. The peace of mind that comes with a professional installation is well worth it, especially considering the safety implications of wheels that are not installed correctly.

If You Choose to Install Yourself

If you are experienced and comfortable with the process and choose to install your wheels yourself, there are several important steps to follow to ensure a safe and proper installation.

Always hand torque your lug nuts using hand tools rather than power tools. Using an impact gun or other power tools during installation can cause damage to the lugs and studs, which can create serious safety issues down the road. Power tools are not recommended at any point during the installation process.

Lug nuts should be tightened in a star pattern rather than going around the wheel in a circle. This ensures even seating of the wheel against the hub and helps prevent warping or uneven pressure on the mounting surface.

Once the lugs are hand tightened, use a torque wrench to bring them to the vehicle manufacturer's specified torque rating. Test Fitting Is a Required Step

After installation, TPMS sensors typically sync up to your vehicle automatically after around 50 miles of driving. In some cases, manual syncing may be required. For this, a reputable wheel and tire shop with the proper aftermarket sensor reading equipment is recommended over a dealership, as dealerships do not always carry the tools needed to read aftermarket sensors.
