What is the difference between directional and non-directional wheels?

Directional wheels have a design that flows a specific way on all four wheels, while non-directional wheels have identical designs on each wheel that may flow in opposite directions once installed.

One common question we get from customers is the difference between directional and non-directional wheels. Understanding this can help you choose the right style and performance setup for your vehicle.

Directional Wheels
Directional wheels are designed so that the pattern or flow of the wheel moves in a specific direction. True directional wheels are typically explicitly listed as directional. With this setup, two wheels on one side of the vehicle will flow in one direction, while the other two wheels flow in the opposite direction. Once installed, the design on all four wheels appears to flow the same way, creating a consistent look.

Non-Directional Wheels
Most one-piece cast wheels are non-directional, meaning their design is the same on every wheel. When installed, the design on the driver side may flow opposite to the design on the passenger side. For most people, this is not noticeable and it allows you to save money by choosing one-piece cast wheels instead of directional forged wheels.

Directional wheels are usually chosen for style or specific performance reasons, while non-directional wheels offer flexibility and cost savings without affecting performance for everyday use.
